GALERIE 103 seeks to bring together a broad cross-section of national and international artists and will feature significant works of high-quality art, including contemporary and modern art that reflects the island's unique
environment past and present. The art at GALERIE 103 will know no boundaries, thereby challenging
misconceptions about regionalism and ethnic origin.
With the importance of global environmental issues, Hawai`i has become (as it should be) one of the centers of conceptual awareness and critical debate, especially about global environmental issues, but also about many
other matters shaping human destiny. ART and ISSUES should and do meet here. GALERIE 103 thus seeks
to expand general awareness and to correct any lingering idea that Hawaiian art is "merely" focused on the
celebration of natural beauty.
GALERIE 103 occupies a 2400-square-feet space, of which 1800 square feet is devoted to the art gallery per
se and 600 square feet constitutes an annex dedicated to modern and contemporary works on paper, art objects,
fiber art and art books.

A bit of SoHo in Kukui`ula: meet the artists of wHat - January 21 @ 6 pm
An informal conversation and walk-through of their work with visiting New York artists Giles and Louda Larrain and Kauai`s artists Doug Britt and Roberta Griffith at galerie 103 on Saturday, December 21st @ 6 pm
Work by the featured artists includes Britt's humorous seating+cruising contraption titled "Escape from L.A," and Louda Larrain's extravagant hats and gowns created from found objects and reclaimed materials. Larrain's handmade fabrics and embroideries are widely utilized by Parisian haute couture houses.
Also included in an exhibit are photographs by Louda and Gilles Larrain. The series titled Dark Angels is an ongoing collaborative project that found its seeds in childhood memories of role playing superheroes mythology.
Roberta Griffith's work, a mixed-media installation of tulle, clay and steel, makes reference to human mortality through the concept of play with suspended doll remnants symbolizing universal shortcomings and disasters.
To complete this unique East-West-art-meet, Gilles Larrain has promised to bring along his guitar. A talented flamenco guitarist, Gilles will treat the audience to a glimpse of monthly Salons that he hosts at his SoHo studio in New York, where he has hosted music events and photo shoots with Miles Davis and Salvador Dali, to name just a few....
