H.C. Westermann - An Affair In The islands

Inspired by H.C. Westermann's (1922 -1981) lithograph "An Affair in the Islands" (1972), this second

biennial exhibit features an eclectic group of artists for a multi-dimensional and multi-media survey of

the island theme.

I find a gentle peace in white, feelings of hope mix with love for
the future and the past. When the wind blows, the flowers dance; lovely shimmering vivacity. As we plant trees, we will enjoy their fruits which come after their
audacious, diverse, joie de vivre blooms.

For me there is a rambling sense of reality where figures, space and ground
constantly collide, confront and embrace each other, providing, promoting or
forcing change where contact is made--analogous to a chemical reaction.

These paintings seek or attempt to visually “opt in” to the viewers' "real space"
(at the specific distance for each viewer) to collide, confront, embrace, examine
and share environments.
