For the last few years I have been unweaving the American flag string by string. As the growing social, political and economic polarization has unfolded – culminating in the recent election – it is unclear to me whether we are coming apart or coming together. These pieces reflect the state of the union, and attempt to unweave national myths, ideologies and perceptions.

 

In the end, I remain an optimist, believing there is more that unites than divides. However these pieces remind us that each individual has a part to play in a unified collective.
